The Dreaded Resume

The Dreaded Resume

Late Sunday night found me working on my resume, after years of putting the task off. How I dread resumes.

Let me tell you, suicide bombings in Lahore scare me a lot less than summarizing what exactly I’ve been doing the last couple of years on paper. The idea that somehow something aside from my voice will be speaking for me to a bunch of weary-eyed employers physically makes me ill. I’m used to scrutiny and criticism, but I don’t handle defeat very well. To that effect by the way, I haven’t lost an election or appointment in over three years.

And, as all of you know, it isn’t as if I have nothing to put on this resume. I’ve done a lot. A whole lot. But when it comes to bragging about myself, my mother’s constant beratings to be humble finally ring true. And to devastating effect: I never have conquered the art of resume writing.

It’s a curse on me. I can write essays, articles, op-eds, even love poems. But I cannot writing a stinking CV!
